Using Indian / South Asian women's fashion to express and develop a "pehchaan" (identity).
Oh no! I’m sure the photos weren’t that bad but I totally understand your concern. Firstly, dark colors work really well to elongate the frame. Next, being short, finding the right kameez length is critical. If it hits right around the knee, it will probably make you look wider as well.
With a churidar, I would look for a high-lo kameez with the front hitting a few inches above the knee and the “lo” part will make sure your butt is covered! But these are rare to find so generally for petite short girls, the trend is to go long! A long anarkali top would be great for this or even better, really long anarkali kameez that isn’t sectioned off under your bust (it’s just more fitted there, kind of A-line style). It should go significantly past your knees and be well-fitted around your bust and upper waist. And I’m sure you know the basics like no horizontal stripes and nothing too poofy. In terms of sleeves if you are petite, you have a lot of options. But for lengthening purposes I would choose sleeveless or 3/4 sleeves (full sleeves are fine but can be a bit overwhelming).
Hope this helps!
